Here is an update from the Chetwynd Energy Club sent on behalf of the Chetwynd Community Interest Company (Chetwynd CIC):-
Dear member,
You will recall that back in June/July time you received a couple of emails – along with a flyer – from us at the Energy Club inviting you to attend some drop-in sessions. The aim of these sessions was to provide information about the Energy Club and whether there was interest within our community for a local energy scheme. The feedback from the sessions was positive and attendees generally appreciated the opportunity to learn how community energy could work, both for them personally and for the wider local community.
At the same time, we wanted to encourage widespread participation in a short survey we hosted on our website. The aim of the survey was to gather information from residents about their own potential interest in the scheme along with some core data (including energy usage) about their household. We had detailed responses to the survey from well over 60 households and the captured data was passed to consultants in mid-August. They were commissioned to undertake detailed analysis of the data and assess whether it would be viable to establish a local Energy Club in our area.
We have received the final report back from the consultants a couple of weeks ago, and following an internal review we have now published it on our website via this link Feasibility Study alongside a second document explaining the background to the study. The study itself is a detailed report, but it is well worth taking a little time to read it through. The conclusions show that, whilst it is technically feasible to operate a local scheme, economically the long Return on Investment at today’s pricing makes it difficult to make a business case with an acceptable level of risk. Nevertheless, we have learnt valuable lessons from the exercise and we are now considering what we need to do next and how best to share those lessons to the wider community.
Thank you to all those who came along to our drop-in sessions and especially those who took part in the survey. Your interest and input was very much appreciated.
We would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
The Chetwynd Energy Club
