Did the Budget change the position of the Future Homes Standard?

Yesterday’s Budget outlined that “the government will not make major changes to building regulations for the remainder of this Parliament – except to continue improving building safety, including implementing the recommendations of the Grenfell Inquiry.”

How does this relate to the planned implementation of the Future Homes and Buildings Standards next year. For clarity, this commitment does not include the Future Homes and Buildings Standards. The legislation making the necessary changes was laid before Parliament on 24 March 2026, and the Future Homes and Buildings Standards will continue to come into force from 24 March 2027 for non-higher risk building work and 24 September 2027 for higher risk building work. For further details on the transitional arrangements, please refer to the government response to the consultation.

This means that any submissions made after 24th March 2027 must comply with the Future Homes and Buildings Standards and therefore have to provide Solar PV, Heatpumps and be Low Carbon
