Neighbourhood Forums are designated by the Local Planning Authority for five-year periods, and our current designation will expire in March next year. However, we have applied to extend this for a further 5-years to ensure the adopted Neighbourhood Plan will be able to be reviewed, monitored and updated as necessary by the Forum as part of the Development Plan for the Forum Area. Only a Neighbourhood Forum (or Town/Parish Council) can make amendments to the Neighbourhood Plan (or create a new one) in future if required.
This is the application submitted to Broxtowe this week – Forum Application For Re-Designation (Oct 2026)
At the same time we have taken the opportunity to request an amendment to the Neighbourhood Area. Unlike the Forum, a designated Neighbourhood Area (ours was originally designated in March 2017) remains extant indefinitely unless the Forum seeks to amend it.
The reason for asking to change the Area boundary now is because the current Area excludes that part of the Toton Strategic Location for Growth that was safeguarded for the proposed HS2 station. This safeguarded zone (east & west of the trainline, including the DB Cargo TMD) is part of Toton i.e. the borough ward of Toton & Chilwell Meadows and is the only part of the ward outside the current Forum Area.
At the time of the original Area designation this safeguarded zone was excluded due to HS2, but now that HS2 north of Birmingham has been cancelled in its entirety, and the safeguarding zone removed, there is no longer any reason for this location to be excluded from the Forum Area.
The new Area boundary above is also shown in Annex 1 within this application – Area Amendment Application (Oct 2026)
Both applications will be subject to public consultation soon, and once Broxtowe has published this on their website, we will let you know.
As always please do feel free to ask any questions you may have on this week’s latest bulletin or anything else via the Contact Us page or by email to assist.cttcnf@gmail.com, and we’ll do our best to answer them via the Questions and Answers page.
